Dredger Design

Through the years the dredging industry has shown a tremendous development, not only visibly by the work executed but also in dredging equipment. Nowadays it varies from small, low cost dredgers up to cutter suction dredgers and jumbo trailing suction hopper dredgers.

Practical experience has been acquired from dredging activities all over the world through our clients and our own observations. This expertise is translated into new designs, modifications or conversions of dredgers and dredging equipment in order to optimize their overall performance.

Modification / conversions
The contractors subject their dredging equipment to modifications or conversions taking into consideration the latest techniques, the demands of the market or special projects.

In order to implement these changes the situation on board has to be assessed beforehand by means of measurement, checks and tests. Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam has acquired a lot of experience in this field.

Some interesting projects worth mentioning are:
  • the conversion of a split barge into a trailing suction hopper dredger
  • an additional discharge system on bulk carriers for an offshore ballasting project
  • lengthening of trailing suction hopper dredgers to increase their hopper capacity
  • the modification of a bucket dredger into a slope trimmer
