In 2007, one of the leading dredging contractors in the world, Jan de Nul, ordered four large self- propelled cutter dredgers, named IBN BATTUTA, ZHENG HE, FERNÃO DE MAGALHÃES and NICCOLÒ MACHIAVELLI.
These dredgers where designed using the latest technology and innovation and are employable worldwide. Insights from the owners’ long-term experience with their existing dredgers have also been incorporated in this design. The partially tilting bow construction is a unique feature in the CSD. This construction is designed to allow the auxiliary spud to be automatically positioned in the horizontal seafastening position. Since the construction is situated at the front end of the vessel, specific attention has been given to withstand forces coming from waves at the bow. Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam has continued its relationship with Jan de Nul by preparing general arrangements, calculations and detailed drawings.
